Skin Aging: Collagen, Blood Sugar and Stress

Read the transcript · 130 words

This is everything wrong with your skin in 60 seconds. Collagen is dropping 1% every year after 25 and nothing in a bottle can replace it. Every time your blood sugar spikes, it breaks down your collagen in a process called glycation.

Your gut and skin are connected so if you're inflamed inside it's showing up on your face. Chronic stress is increasing your oil production and stopping your skin from healing itself. Your skin is actually an elimination organ.

When your liver is overwhelmed, your skin picks up the slack, which is why you look dull and congested. Your cellular turnover is slowing down, which means dead skin is just sitting there instead of shedding. Your hormones control your skin elasticity and thickness and been dropping since your mid-20s.

Hair Thinning in Women: DHT, Ferritin and Hormones

Read the transcript · 223 words

If your ponytail is half the size it used to be, this isn't normal aging, your hair is thinning. Here are three main causes. Number one, DHT.

As your hormones are changing as you get older, like into your 30s, some of your hormones convert into DHT. And because of that, your hair follicles are shrinking over time. The smaller your hair follicles are, the thinner your hair strands are going to be, and eventually you're going to have no hair at all.

Number two is ferritin levels. Ferritin is stored iron levels and it is the single most overlooked cause of hair loss in women. Your hair follicles absolutely need this to produce new growth.

Most women are running critically low without even knowing it. This is why it is so important, ladies, to get your iron in. Number three is going to be your estrogen and progesterone levels.

So these hormones is what's going to keep your hair in its growth phase for longer. As those hormones decline, this is where the shedding comes in. Hair loss is the first signs that your body is needing internal support.

Skin Aging: Sugar, Stress and Side-Sleeping Habits

Read the transcript · 315 words

These three things are destroying your skin and it's not sun damage. Most people have no idea that their diet has such a significant role in how you're aging. Every time you put sugar in your mouth, your body's going through this process called glycation.

What happens is sugar molecules attach to your collagen fibers, which we want, we want to keep youthful, and breaks them down. It makes your skin stiff. It makes your skin dull.

And it ages you faster, hands down, than anything else. And it's not just the candy. It's the white bread.

It's the pasta. It's the healthy granola bars. This is all going to add up.

Number two, chronic stress. Yes, stress will aid you. I can't stress the importance of how stress will literally put years on you.

Stress is directly linked to cortisol. Cortisol directly degrades your collagen, which is what keeps us young. So if you're stressed, your cortisol is going to spike and then your body breaks down collagen way faster than we can rebuild it.

Third, and this one might come as a shocker, but sleeping on your side. When you sleep on the exact same side every single night, you're creating compression and friction on the exact same side of your face for hours. And over years, that's going to add up.

That's going to create lines and wrinkles that no amount of skincare can fix. And this is where I highly recommend if you don't already have one, definitely sleep on a silk pillowcase. Silk does help reduce that friction and it protects our collagen that we're working so hard to rebuild.

If you're doing everything right with your skincare and you're still not seeing the results you want, one of these three things could potentially be why. Comment balance down below and I'll share exactly how my clinic will fix this.
